This smallest and youngest of all Kremlin towers was named for Tsar Ivan Grozny (the Terrible). It was built in 1680 atop the wall between the Spasskaya and Nabatnaya towers, replacing a small wooden turret which stood there for many years. From the turret according to legend, the young Tsar enjoyed hurling dogs down to their death. It was also great for observing both executions and festivals in Red Square below. The Tower’s eight-sided tent roof is topped with a gilded weathervane. Overall, the turret is reminiscent of one from a Russian fairy-tale. It is considered to be one of the Kremlin's best looking buildings.
